Flavomaresheim2020
Based on my first short film from 2016 this five-part mini series revisits the eponymous town and tells a fractured tale centered around the theme of community.
One of the key design principles was the juxtaposition of both vertical and horizontal narration inside of one singular story. At first viewing the individual episodes may appear as entirely self-contained stories, but towards the end they reveal themselves as one interconnected narrative.
To further this idea, each episode it purposefully shot to feel like it’s taken from a stylistically different genre of film, with prime examples being the very fast-paced and dialogue heavy third and the music-centric fourth episode.
The plot of Flavomaresheim is heavily inspired by regional history and mixes entirely fictional elements with stories and characters that truly existed.
